Come and join our Walk and Talks this Saturday 29th June for a step into history. We have organised a very special visit to the Merton Priory Chapter House –  which should not be missed.

Our Morden Hall Park, Colliers Wood and Mitcham Walk and Talk groups will all meet at their normal starting points at 10.30am on Saturday – see the exact locations here.

Then each group will Walk and Talk together to the lovely Merton Abbey Mills – itself steeped in history, from the arts and crafts of William Morris to the Liberty textile print works.

There we will meet John Hawks, of the Merton Priory trust who is an amazing supporter of the local community and is always happy to reveal some great local stories. He will lead us on a visit to the Merton Priory Chapter House.

Merton Priory was one of the most important monasteries of the middle ages. Henry III’s queen, Eleanor of Provence and King Henry VI were both crowned here whilst Thomas Becket and Walter de Merton (founder of Merton College Oxford) were both educated here.

John will tell us about the amazing history of the Merton Priory as well as the future of the site.

This lovely morning is completely free – and no bookings and reservations are needed. Just come along to our Morden, Mitcham or Colliers Wood starting points for 10.30am on Saturday 29th June and let’s make history together.
