Wow – what a happy and healthy milestone. The Wimbledon Park community has just celebrated 150 Walk and Talks together. It is an amazing achievement by the local community, with thousands of participants coming together since the weekly Wimbledon Park Walk and Talk started three years ago. Come and celebrate their three year anniversary with them on Saturday 28th September at 10.30am – and also enjoy a bit of birthday cake and a great chat with a lovely friendly group into the bargain:

The Wimbledon Park Walk and Talks take place every Saturday at 10.30am from the Walk and Talk poster near the cafe in the park. They are so popular as they are free, fun, accessible, friendly and welcoming – which make them so simple, but at the same time so unique. No registrations or bookings are required – walkers and talkers know they can turn up and the community will be there with a warm welcome at the same time and the same place every week.

Their Facebook page will give you more details of the weekly walks. Afterwards the group usually meets up for refreshments, to chat and maybe a game of chess or draughts.

So many people regularly tell us that Walk and Talks have changed their lives – and put countless smiles on faces every week. Volunteers love their Walk and Talks, calling them ‘rewarding’ and ‘the best thing I’ve ever done.’ Communities and people reconnect and make friends. Physical and mental health improves. Loneliness and isolation reduces. People enjoy lovely green spaces, fresh air and nature together.

We are so proud to say that the Wimbledon Park Walk and Talk was the first Walk and Talk in the country inspired by The Walk and Talk Movement and its success has led to community walk and talks springing up across green spaces in South West London, and soon nationally.

We are also so grateful for wonderful support from the Wimbledon Park Residents’ Association and the Wimbledon Park Community Trust.

Now the local Wimbledon Park Walk and Talk community needs your help. They are looking for volunteers for a couple of hours a month to help support the occasional Walk and Talk, and enjoy some great fresh air, a walk in the park, meet new people and have some great chats. You always learn something special on a Walk and Talk.

Please e-mail info@thewalkandtalkmovement.org if you can provide occasional help. It’s easy, fun and you get plenty of support.

Let’s Walk and Talk Together as building a great community, and health and happiness, can be a walk in the park.
