As the nights draw in, mid-November marks National Self Care Week and the theme this year is Mind and Body.
It reinforces the idea that physical activity directly impacts positively on mental health, and vice versa.
This led us to look at some of the goals behind the Self Care Forum, that created Self Care Week, and they rang such a big bell.
Here is a quick abridged summary of their mission:
Empowering people with the confidence and knowledge to look after themselves when they can, and access health services when they need to, gives them greater agency in their life and encourages healthy behaviours that help prevent ill health in the long-term. This can lead to more cost-effective use of stretched NHS resources allows money spent where it’s most needed, helping to secure better health outcomes in the population and helping the long-term sustainability of the NHS.
In other words helping yourself can help others.
In many ways that is what The Walk and Talk Movement is all about. Inspiring local communities to come together to help each other and themselves – getting healthier and happier and stronger together.
It’s the one of simplest, easiest, free, fun and best ways we know to take care of yourself.
