In a world where AI and technology increasingly grab the headlines, it is too easy to forget how important human bonds are and how powerful and positive local communities can be when we come together.

…and what better way to demonstrate local people power than looking at Walk and Talks this Saturday 16th August…

Independent community Walk and Talks across South West London are doing some great things together.

The Morden Hall Park Walk and Talk group are kicking off the annual Merton Heritage Discovery Day at 10.30am with a special Walk and Talk from their usual starting point near the stable yard in this beautiful National Trust property to Morden Library and the Civic Centre.

The Merton Heritage Discovery Day is an annual, free, family-friendly event showcasing the borough’s history. The event will feature stalls from museums, historical societies, local artists, and community groups. There will also be talks, displays, and activities for all ages.

The Mitcham Walk and Talk group will join them – walking along the Wandle Trail to the event.

Meanwhile there will be a special Walk and Talk from the Wimbledon Village War Memorial at 10.30am, commemorating the 80th anniversary of VJ Day with readings and personal reflections. Then the group will proceed to a village venue to celebrate two years of this Walk and Talk group with cakes and balloons! Incidentally, August 16th also marks 154 years to the day when the Wimbledon and Putney Commons Act was passed in 1871, creating this wonderful wild space, which the community is so grateful to have.

Your local community has never been more important – and Walk and Talks have proven to be a great – and real – way to connect with each other.
